About Us

Kia ora koutou, welcome to Kerikeri Homeschoolers!

Who we are: We are a group of homeschooling whanau around the Kerikeri area. Our tamariki are a range of ages, from 5 into teens.

How we work: The purpose of our group is to provide opportunities for our tamariki to develop friendships with other homeschooled children, and for us as parents to develop supportive relationships with other homeschooling parents. Since this is our focus, our group runs fairly informally, without the tight structure of classes.

Our group is organised by all parents together; we meet at the start of each term and plan the weeks ahead, based on the interests of tamariki. Parents take a date or two per term to organise an activity or a trip. i.e. beach or river, drama, bushcraft, woodworking, arts and crafts, games, etc.(Although there is no expectation to organise an activity/trip if you are new to the group or have a young child).

Please ALL parents remember that this group is a co-operative effort. The group runs well when everyone contributes to the activities on the day - set up, clean up, supervising children, etc.

Please think ahead of time about any resources you may be able to contribute to an activity (eg. glue guns, library books on a topic, collage scraps etc).

Please also discuss with your whanau the activities coming up so that the children can have some ideas about what will be doing on the day. Some activities do need to be booked in, and have limited numbers able to participate.

You will need to become a member to view our calender of upcoming events.

Day: We meet on a Wednesday every week during term dates.

Time: Our usual group time is 1pm-3pm, although different activities may have different start and finish times, and we are often still playing later than 3pm.

The outings & events are organised for school-age children, although preschoolers are welcome.

Health & Safety: There are varying safety impacts for each activity or trip. Please be aware of these, keep in mind your child’s capabilities and watch your own tamariki. Although we are there as a group, your tamariki are your responsibility at all times.

Although we aim to provide a fun and safe environment, it is expected that parents are ultimately responsible for the safety of their own children at events and activities, and no responsibility is accepted by the organisers of Kerikeri Homeschoolers for any incidents that may occur during any session to children other than their own.
